Klesch Group acquires bp Gelsenkirchen Refinery Business
The Klesch Group announces the successful completion of its acquisition of bp’s Gelsenkirchen refinery business located in one of Germany’s and Europe’s largest integrated refining and petrochemical clusters.
The refinery operates across two interconnected sites in Horst and Scholven, which together with the Bottrop tank farm and DHC Solvents business, employs more than 1,700 people. They produce diesel, gasoline and heating oil for the local market and supply jet fuel for Dusseldorf airport. As Germany’s second-largest ethylene plant, it also produces more than 50 additional products, primarily supplying the chemical industry.
The acquisition marks an important milestone in the continued expansion of Klesch’s European refining portfolio. As we begin this new chapter, our focus will be on ensuring a smooth transition, maintaining safe and reliable operations, and working closely with employees, employee representatives and other stakeholders, to secure the refinery’s long-term future, as part of the Klesch Group.
