Thermal talent receives the Kalundborg Refinery Prize 2024

Associate Professor Gerald Englmair is awarded the Kalundborg Refinery Award 2024. He receives the award for his research into the use of thermal storage which can contribute to increased utilisation of renewable energy in the energy system.

On Friday April 12th, the Kalundborg Refinery Award 2024 was awarded to Gerald Englmair, Associate Professor at DTU Construct. He received the award for his research in thermal storage of renewable energy. His focus on the development and integration of compact thermal energy storage technologies aims to create sustainable solutions that can increase the utilisation of renewable energy in industrial and residential applications.

Gerald Englmair is a young researcher with a strong focus on practical applications of his research in the use of renewable forms of energy. The potentials are enormous, and the results could eventually bring the green transition closer to the individual Danish household,” says the award committee, which consists of Rector Anders Overgaard Bjarklev, Professor Christian Niordson and Professor Charlotte Scheutz.

The award was presented by the Managing Director of Kalundborg Refinery, Claus Navntoft, who in his speech emphasised the durability of the award:

I am pleased and honoured to carry on the tradition. Despite changes in ownership, management and name, the award is still alive and well more than 60 years after it was first awarded – for the benefit of society.”

The award ceremony was held in beautiful settings at the National Museum of Denmark. Here, Gerald Englmair was celebrated by previous awardees, the award committee, the board of the Kalundborg Refinery Foundation and representatives from Kalundborg Refinery.

The Kalundborg Refinery Award is the oldest technology award in Denmark and is awarded once a year by the Kalundborg Refinery Foundation, which aims to support and promote socially beneficial purposes of a national, social, scientific, commercial, and human nature. The award comes with o check of DKK 100,000 for the awardee.
